I planned on doing this great post today about all the herbs and plants that are about to start to bloom now that it is mid-April. Then I woke up and saw that it was snowing. Full on, blizzard of disgusting, white flakes reigning down on April 14th. What in the actual fuck? But it is the mid-west, Illinois and this is what we have come to expect. It was 70° on Monday and 32° and snowing on Sunday. Tomorrow is going to be 50° with Wednesday shaping up to back up to 70°.
When the weather decides to pocket the bipolar behavior, I am looking forward to harvesting some pretty awesome herbs and flowers to make a new batch of tinctures. We have plenty of plantain weed, dandelion, pine, alder, arnica, echinacea, honeysuckle, red clover, chamomile and so much more. I have big plans to really stock up my shelves (once the snow melts).
Making oils, salves, and hydrosol’s are also in the near future. I really want to start offering these to clients for a variety of symptoms. For example, my Chamomile, Passionflower and Lemon Balm tincture helps with anxiety and panic attacks. The tincture I make with St. John’s Wort and Skullcap is used for depressive symptoms. I think they would make amazing additions to the nursing home setting, but there are a ton of hoops to jump through to get to that point. But I will keep advocating for it. So many families are open to using integrated medicine for their loved ones.
So, I will keep you all posted with pictures once I start the tinctures. AND when we start planting some of our own herbs in our little garden.
What are you planting this spring?
